The increasing trend of promoter exits signals a maturing market, where investors are looking to unlock value and rebalance their portfolios. However, this heightened selling activity also raises questions about future market stability and the underlying sentiment of major stakeholders.

Here’s a look at the 10 companies that have experienced the highest promoter stake sales in value terms throughout 2025, according to a recent report by Kotak Institutional Equities, which cites data from media reports and Prime Database.

The telecom service provider has taken the spotlight this time, with multiple stake sales by its promoter entities throughout the year. According to a Kotak note, the promoters of Bharti Airtel have sold shares worth $4.8 billion in 2025 alone. As of now, the promoter’s stake in Bharti Airtel stands at 48.9%.

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., operating as IndiGo, specializes in low-cost passenger air transportation. It has seen a steady spate of stake sales from one of its promoters, Rakesh Gangwal.  The Promoter sales in IndiGo in 2025 so far have totalled close to $1.7 billion, and the IndiGo promoters still hold 41.6% in the airline.

Vishal Mega Mart specializing in being India’s leading Fashion-led Hypermarket, with its promoters active through 2025 after the stock went public last year, and it has seen sales totalling $1.17 billion so far Currently, the promoters hold a 54.1% stake in the company.

AWL Agri Business Ltd, a vast, integrated food & FMCG portfolio, has undergone a change of promoters in 2025, with promoter stake sales totalling $717 million so far this year, and promoters now have a 56.9% stake in the company.

Bajaj Finserv Ltd. specializing in a wide range of diversified financial services. In 2025, the company’s promoters sold shares worth up to $634 million, reducing their stake. Currently, the promoters still hold a significant 58.8% share in the company.

Mphasis Ltd, specialising in cloud and cognitive services, saw its promoters selling $544 million worth of shares in the company so far in 2025, reducing their holding to 40.1%. 

Aptus Value Housing Finance specialises in providing affordable home loans and loans against property, saw its promoters selling a stake worth $526 million through 2025, reducing their holding to 23.9%.

Sagility specializing in providing technology-enabled healthcare solutions, saw its promoters selling a stake worth $421 million through 2025, reducing their holding to 51%.

Cohance Lifesciences, a global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO), has seen its promoters sell shares worth $356 million in 2025 so far, and the promoter stake currently stands at 57.5%.

Hindustan Zinc specializing in the exploration, mining, and smelting of zinc, lead, and silver, saw its promoters selling a stake worth $349 million through 2025, reducing their holding to 61.8%.
