Two men have fronted court after police uncovered $1.5 million in cash stashed inside a lounge in the back of a van in New South Wales.
Highway Patrol officers pulled over a Toyota Hi-Ace on the Hume Hwy at Yass in the state’s south about 8.35am on Tuesday during a routine alcohol and drug stop.
The 25-year-old driver returned negative results in both a breath and drug test.

But a search of the van revealed a lounge in two pieces.
When officers looked inside, they found a suitcase and two shopping bags stuffed with cash later estimated to be $1.5 million worth.
The money, along with the van and mobile phones, was seized for forensic examination.
The driver, aged 24, and his 37-year-old passenger were arrested and taken to Yass Police Station.

Both men were charged with recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime valued at $100,000 or more.
They were refused bail before appearing in Bail Division Court on Wednesday, where they were granted conditional bail.
The pair will reappear in Goulburn Local Court on January 21, 2026.
