16-year-old boy fatally stabs classmate in Pune coaching centre after ‘dispute’ | Pune News

During an ongoing session at a private coaching class for Std 10 in Rajgurunagar town of Pune district, a 16-year-old boy fatally injured a fellow student, also 16 with a knife, on Monday morning as a fallout of a fight between the two a month ago. The Pune Rural Police who have detained the assailant said they would be moving an application before the Juvenile Justice Board that he be tried as an adult.

According to information given by Pune Rural police the incident took place on Monday morning around 8.55 am in a private coaching class for Class 10 students located on Court Road in Rajgurunagar town in Khed taluka, around 45 kilometers from Pune city.
Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural said, “Initial probe suggests that the two had a fight on December 13 towards the end of the class. The attack on Monday is believed to be a fallout of that. The 16-year-old juvenile attacked the victim on the neck and in the abdomen. The victim was rushed to a Rural Hospital, Chandoli where the doctor pronounced him dead.”

Gill added, “After the incident was reported to us, a probe was launched and teams were deployed at the location. The juvenile was asked to appear at the police station and he was detained. He has been charged for murder and will be produced before the JJB on Tuesday. This incident highlights various issues with regards to safety and behavioural aspects of the school and college students. We have been interacting with the students and teachers on this aspect and we will continue to do so in the coming days.”

Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde said, “We will be moving an application seeking trial of the accused as an adult.”
