Following the release of a successful first trailer, promo for Scream 7 is due to amp up following the Christmas holiday.
Plot elements are being kept very tightly under wraps, but we do know several franchise alumni are reprising their past roles. Of these returning cast members, we have Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, both of whom were unmasked as the iconic Ghostface killer.
The logic behind these two very dead villains returning? Well, despite the tight lock on plot details, reliable sources continue to report that Scream 7 will heavily feature the use of AI technology as a plot point. We’re told a new Ghostface killer is toying with Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, using AI to make past villains appear from beyond the grave.
With the return of Lillard and Foley, fans have been asking which other past Ghostface’s might make an appearance.
Sadly, it appears we can cross Skeet Ulrich off the list of hopefuls. The Billy Loomis actor confirmed whilst promoting Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 that he won’t be appearing in Scream 7:
“I’m not involved. I’m really excited though. I’m excited for Kevin Williamson to take the helm and to see what the mastermind of it all comes up with.”
Whilst this will undoubtedly disappoint fans, we can take solace in the fact that Ulrich did return for the fifth and sixth instalments of the franchise. The actor reprised the role of Billy Loomis in several visions experienced by his daughter Samantha, played by Melissa Barrera.
To that end, Ulrich revealed that he was set to return for the original version of Scream 7, before the firing of Barrera:
“I used to know [what the movie was about], because part of coming back for five and six was being a part of seven. It was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis, or the imagination of Billy Loomis in Melissa Barrera’s character’s head. But when all that went down with her, obviously you lose her and you lose what’s in her head. I used to know what the seventh was going to be and it was really, really interesting. Now I have no clue. I don’t know how [Matthew Lillard’s] back. I have no idea, which I’m kind of excited for, to see it and not know.”
So, Billy Loomis will not be joining the AI-generated figures from Sidney Prescott’s past… Or will he? Is this all just a clever bluff on Ulrich’s part?
We’ll find out when Scream 7 hits theatres on February 27th 2026.
