The Biju Janata Dal on Saturday (December 13, 2025) took potshot at the Bharatiya Janata Party government saying Mohan Majhi has become the first Chief Minister, since the formation of a separate Odisha State, to take a luxurious VIP bungalow in Delhi.

Moreover, the regional party took strong exceptions to deployment of one platoon of police under leadership of camp commander for security of Odisha CM in his Delhi bungalow.

“The Odisha Government already has Odisha Bhavan, Odisha Niwas and Odisha Sadan in Delhi. After Odisha Bhavan was demolished for reconstruction, arrangements have been made for the Chief Minister’s stay during his Delhi visits in a star hotel. Yet, Mr. Majhi, who calls himself a ‘people’s Chief Minister’ has not been satisfied with this and has instead opted for a VIP bungalow,” said Lenin Mohanty, BJD spokesperson, addressing a press conference on Saturday.

“As per protocol, whenever a CM visits Delhi, security is provided by the Delhi Police. However, questions arise if Odisha CM do not trust the Delhi Police for his security. Instead he opts for one platoon of Odisha Police at a huge cost to the State exchequer,” said Mr. Mohanty.

“Such security arrangements for a CM have never been heard of before. Even after serving as CM for 24 years, Naveen Patnaik led an extremely simple life and never thought of taking a bungalow in Delhi by spending money from the state treasury. Why has Mohan Majhi felt the need for this after just one and a half years as Chief Minister? Is he feeling insecure due to the intense power struggle within the Odisha BJP? BJD spokesperson asked.

The BJD also took a dig saying after formation of a ‘double-engine government’ in Odisha, people had hoped that central grants and assistance for the state would double.

“However, despite the Mr. Majhi visiting Delhi multiple times every month, central assistance is declining instead of increasing. The State’s pending dues from the Centre are not being released, and the debt burden of the State has increased sharply within one and a half years,” the party pointed out.
