TOHO Animation has revealed a new trailer and additional cast for the upcoming The Darwin Incident TV anime series, which will begin broadcasting in Japan on January 6, 2026.
The latest trailer (which includes English subtitles) also previews the show’s main opening theme “Make Me Wonder” by Official Hige Dandism.
The five new cast members joining the series include:
- • Toshiyuki Morikawa as Gilbert Stein
- • Rina Sato as Hannah Stein
- • Yoji Ueda as Philip Graham
- • Kaito Ishikawa as Gale
- • Hiroya Egashira as Lesley K. Lippman
They join a main voice cast that stars Atsumi Tanezaki as Charlie, Mitsuho Kanbe as Lucy, and Akio Otsuka as Rivera.
TOHO Animation’s official English Twitter/X account also announced that the series will be streamed “exclusively” on Amazon Prime Video.
Naokatsu Tsuda (Tokyo 24th Ward) is directing the anime series, with Katsuichi Nakayama (Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory director, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time co-director) as series director, Shinichi Inozume (Spy Classroom) as series composer, and Shinpei Tomooka (Trinity Seven) as character designer. Bellnox Films is in charge of the animation production.
The science fiction thriller manga series by Shun Umezawa has been serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon since June 25, 2020. Nine tankobon volumes have been released as of May 2025.
The manga was a finalist in the General category of the 47th and 48th Kodansha Manga Award. It was also the winner of the 15th Manga Taisho award, as well as an Excellence Award at the 25th Japanese Media Arts Festival.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga for English release, and describes the main premise as:
The Animal Liberation Alliance, an eco-terrorist organization, rescues a pregnant chimpanzee from an animal testing lab-only for it to give birth to a half-human, half-chimpanzee “humanzee” named Charlie! Fifteen years later, Charlie’s human foster parents are finally ready to send him to a normal high school, where he makes his first friend: a human girl named Lucy. In the meantime, however, the ALA’s stance has become ever more extreme, and now they’re here to drag Charlie into their terrorist plot…
