Indian Cricketers Suspended Over Corruption Allegations

Four Indian cricketers from Assam have been provisionally suspended after corruption-related allegations surfaced during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 in Lucknow.

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) announced that Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri have been barred with immediate effect following claims that they attempted to influence members of the Assam squad.

The matter is now under investigation by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while police have also registered a formal case.

During the suspension period, the four players are prohibited from taking part in any state-level competitions, ACA-affiliated club matches, or other cricket-related roles, including coaching, umpiring, or officiating. District cricket bodies have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.

An FIR has been filed with the Crime Branch in Guwahati in connection with the allegations, which relate to Assam’s campaign in SMAT 2025 held from November 26 to December 8. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has also carried out a preliminary inquiry and reportedly found initial evidence pointing to serious wrongdoing.

In other news, three Indian under-19 cricketers brutally attacked their coach with bats in Puducherry over their non-selection for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad. Police have registered an attempted murder case and are searching for the accused, who reportedly fled after the assault.

According to authorities, the coach, Venkataraman, was supervising practice when the suspects confronted him, and the situation turned violent. He suffered multiple serious injuries, including broken ribs and a head wound that required extensive stitching, and is currently receiving medical treatment.
