Adelaide weather forecast for Saturday December 13 and the days ahead

South Australians are being urged to stay weather-aware over the coming days, with a mix of clearing conditions, strong winds and extreme heat forecast across parts of the state.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Adelaide will see cloud clear today, with a forecast maximum of 27 degrees and only a 10 per cent chance of rain, providing a relatively settled end to the working week.

Conditions will cool slightly over the weekend. Sunday is expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 14 degrees to 23 degrees and a 20 per cent chance of rain. Similar conditions are forecast for Monday, with a minimum of 12 degrees and a top of 23 degrees, as mild and partly cloudy weather continues across the metropolitan area.

From Tuesday onwards, Adelaide is expected to move into a prolonged warm spell, with sunny skies and steadily rising temperatures throughout the week. By Thursday, temperatures are forecast to peak at around 38 degrees, marking a significant heat event for the city and surrounding regions.

While Adelaide braces for heat later in the week, marine conditions remain hazardous in parts of the state. The Bureau has issued a Strong Wind Warning for Spencer Gulf for today and Sunday, with the warning also applying to the Lower South East Coast on Sunday. Warnings for Gulf St Vincent and Investigator Strait have now been cancelled.

A Severe Heatwave Warning remains in effect for the North East Pastoral District, where extreme temperatures are expected to persist through the start of next week. Residents in these areas are advised to take extra care, particularly those most at risk, including older South Australians, infants, and people with existing health conditions.

Authorities are reminding residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, seek shade wherever possible, and make use of fans or air-conditioning to stay cool.

Weather conditions across South Australia are currently being influenced by a trough moving in from the east, which is expected to clear later today. Once it passes, a high-pressure system is forecast to settle south of the Bight, helping to stabilise conditions into early next week.

Before that system fully establishes, the Bureau notes there may still be isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, particularly across central and eastern parts of the state. These are expected to ease by tonight. On Sunday, isolated light showers may continue across southern districts and coastal areas before conditions gradually settle.
