After receiving the most nominations in the show’s history, French developer Sandfall Interactive‘s critically acclaimed RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the lion’s share of awards at The Game Awards 2025 last night, including the coveted Game of the Year. In total, Clair Obscur walked away with nine awards (the most ever) out of its 13 nominations (also the most ever).

Horror fans had a bit to cheer about this year, with The Midnight Walk winning Best VR game (beating out Alien: Rogue Incursion and Deadpool VR), Doom: The Dark Ages winning the award for Innovation in Accessibility, and South of Midnight earning the Games for Impact award. Genre fare such as Hades II won Best Action Game, and Hollow Knight: Silksong won Best Action/Adventure Game. Silent Hill f was shut out of the four categories where it was nominated.
For Best Adaptation, HBO’s The Last of Us: Season 2 beat out Netflix’s Devil May Cry and Sony’s Until Dawn.
