Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported a significant oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in the Nashpa Block, district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange, the well has produced a flow rate of 2,280 barrels per day (BPD) of oil and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,400 psi through a 32/64″ choke.
This marks the first oil and gas discovery from the Kingriali Formation in the Nashpa Block. OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest, alongside joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) holding 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with a 5% carried interest.
The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spud-in on December 24, 2024, and drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters, targeting the Kingriali Formation. The well encountered a 90-meter-thick hydrocarbon-bearing interval of Triassic age. Following encouraging hydrocarbon shows and analysis of open hole wireline logs, a successful cased hole drill stem test (DST) was conducted.
OGDCL stated that this discovery not only de-risks deeper exploration in the region but will also help bridge Pakistan’s energy supply-demand gap by adding to the country’s indigenous hydrocarbon reserves. The company emphasized that the find will benefit OGDCL, its joint venture partners, and the nation’s energy security.
