Central Coast Mariners 1-2 Sydney FC: Goals, highlights, video

Sydney FC came from one goal down to beat Central Coast Mariners 2-1 and return to the top of the Isuzu UTE A-League table on Saturday night.

The Mariners struck first through matchday captain and academy product Brad Tapp, whose very first Isuzu UTE A-League goal put interim head coach Warren Moon’s side in command at polytec Stadium.

But new CommBank Socceroo Al Hassan Toure came up with the all-important equaliser for Sydney FC just before the half-hour mark, which set the stage for Spanish striker Victor Campuzano to win all three points for the Sky Blues in a game delayed by one hour due to lightning activity within the vicitnity of the stadium.

Sydney’s 2-1 comeback win came after the disappointment of a 1-0 Sydney Derby defeat to the Wanderers in Round 6; the Sky Blues responded in style at polytec Stadium to reclaim top spot on the Isuzu UTE A-League table – a position they lost after wins for both Auckland FC and Melbourne City earlier on Saturday.

But the three-point display did come with one moment of concern for Sydney head coach Ufuk Talay, as star winger Joe Lolley was substituted in the second half with what appeared to be a right hamstring injury.

“Hopefully, this is not serious,” said Paramount+ pitchside reporter Daniel Garb as Lolley trudged off the pitch.

“This would be a massive story if Joe Lolley has done some damage to his hamstring. He does look okay, so you’d imagine it’s not too bad.”

Post-game, Talay told Paramount+ it was “too early to know anything” in regards to Lolley’s potential injury.

“We’ll give it 24 hours and see how he’s feeling, and if he needs a scan we’ll get a scan,” Talay added.
