It’s such a production to choose something to watch these days. I often find myself frozen as I peruse the lineups of multiple streaming platforms in search of quality content. Accordingly, I breathe much easier when a film comes highly recommended. Though there are no sure things in life, a good endorsement from a trusted source helps make the decision-making process less daunting. If you find yourself similarly reluctant to commit, I am here to help. I am on the scene with a Stephen King-endorsed streaming recommendation that’s sure to hit the spot. More specifically, I am talking about Bird Box

A few years back, King took in the Netflix original horror film, and the beloved author had nothing but good things to say. King was so impressed by Bird Box that he even suggested that any negative critiques likely stem from mixed feelings about the picture’s status as a direct-to-streaming title, rather than the film’s quality.

This post-apocalyptic horror thriller takes place five years after a mysterious presence drives the majority of the world’s population to suicide. A mother (Sandra Bullock) tries to lead her children to a place of refuge where they will be safe from the dark forces at play, but they will have to make the journey blindfolded to avoid falling victim to the unknown evil.

See exactly what Stephen King has to say about Bird Box below:

I was absolutely riveted by BIRD BOX (Netflix). Don’t believe the lukewarm reviews, which may in part have been caused by reviewers’ ambivalence to the streaming platform, as opposed to theatrical releases.

As you can see above, King was riveted by the film, and he even thinks the flick is better than the initial reviews gave it credit for being.

Although King doesn’t go into a lot of detail in the above tweet, I have a few guesses as to what he liked about Bird Box. For one, I suspect he connected with director Susanne Bier’s deft direction. She delivers a compelling presentation steeped in paranoia courtesy of an invisible entity that gives Lovecraftian vibes. The unseen antagonist effectively sows seeds of paranoia, which are compounded by the fact that the lead characters spend much of the picture’s runtime blindfolded.

If I had to hazard another guess, I’d say that King probably connected with the film’s core characters. Eric Heisserer’s screenplay features richly developed characters brought to life by a capable cast. Heisserer adapted the screenplay from the Josh Malerman novel of the same name.

If you are ready to check the film out, make your way over to Netflix and give it a shot.
