Police say they were stopped by a member of the public on Friday night and made aware of a physical disturbance inside the venue.

They say the 61-year-old had been evicted after assaulting a staff member.

Officers allege a physical struggle followed as they tried to arrest him.

Gillmeister said the reason he didn’t get on the ground when the officers asked was because of the injuries suffered throughout his sporting career.

He received a three-month good behaviour bond with no conviction recorded.

“I know I’m a good person, deep down, so I know I’ve done wrong,” he said.

“There was alcohol involved, there’s no doubt about that.

“I’ve got plenty of lessons at home now, I can tell you, with my wife and two daughters.

“They’ve kicked me up the backside and rightfully so.

“I wish everyone the best.”

Gillmeister played 257 first grade games across his career, including 72 for the Broncos in the early 1990s. He was a key member of the team that won the premiership in 1992 and 1993.

The prop played 22 games for Queensland in Origin and also represented Australia in three Tests.

Post playing career, he worked as an assistant coach for the Queensland Origin team.
