Newcastle Jets snapped a three-game losing streak after stunning reigning Isuzu UTE A-League premiers Auckland FC 2-1 on Sunday.
Lachie Rose’s 42nd-minute goal proved to be the difference at a rain-soaked Go Media Stadium, where Auckland suffered their first regular-season home defeat since December 21 last year and their first loss of the campaign.

Without a win since their 5-2 upset of Melbourne Victory on October 24, Australia Cup champions Newcastle hit the front inside three minutes thanks to academy graduate Will Dobson – who celebrated his maiden A-Leagues goal.
The visitors’ lead, however, lasted just 11 minutes. Louis Verstraete’s thunderous half-volley restored parity in the 14th minute.
But the Jets restored their lead in the 42nd minute when Rose sprung the offside trap and put the ball in the back of the net.
Both sides had chances to score in the second half as heavy rain lashed the Auckland venue, though Mark Milligan’s Jets held on for their maiden win over the Black Knights.
