Indirectly hitting out at Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday (November 28, 2025) that India knows how to maintain peace and protect itself.

Speaking at the ‘Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana’ programme organised by Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Putthige Mutt in Udupi, Mr. Modi said: “Hum shanti ki sthapana bhi jaante hai aur shanti ki raksha karna bhi jaante hai (We know how to establish peace and also how to maintain it and safeguard the country).”

The programme was a devotional gathering of thousands of participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from various walks of life, who recited verses from 18 chapters of Srimad Bhagavad Gita in unison.

PM invokes national security

Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister said that during earlier terror attacks, the “then Indian government” (referring to Congress-led Centre) simply watched by crossing its hands. Mr. Modi said that the present government will not sit idle without retaliation as “this is Naya Bharat.”

The Prime Minister said that Lord Krishna preached Bhagavad Gita on the battlefield wherein the Lord also mentioned that “atyacharis” (wrongdoers) should be wiped out to maintain peace and uphold truth. “Lord Krishna has said that ‘shanti aur satya ki sthapana ke liye atyachariyonka anthya bhi aaavashyak hai’,” Mr. Modi said.

Referring to national security, the Prime Minister said that India has adopted both the principles of “Vasudaiva Kutumbakam” (The world is a family) and “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha” (Dharma will protect the one who upholds it) in protecting itself. “India rolled out Mission Sudarshan Chakra inspired by the preachings of the Bhagavad Gita,” he added.

Nine resolutions

The Prime Minister asked people to adopt nine resolutions in life.

They include water conservation, afforestation, uplifting at least one poor person, promotion of “swadeshi” products and technology, natural farming, healthy living by reducing consumption of oil, daily practice of yoga, conservation of manuscripts, and visiting at least 25 places of traditional significance in the country.

Visit to Sri Krishna Mutt

Earlier, during his visit to the Sri Krishna Mutt, Mr. Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Tirtha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) to the Kanakana Kindi, a sacred window through which Saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had the divine darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.

The Sri Krishna Mutt was established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita philosophy of Vedanta.

Mr. Modi arrived at Aadi Udupi helipad from Mangaluru International Airport. On the way from the helipad to Sri Krishna Mutt, he conducted a roadshow from Bannanje Narayana Guru Circle to Kalsanka.

After the Udupi programme, the Prime Minister flew back to Mangaluru International Airport from where he travelled to Goa where he visited Sri Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt on the occasion of ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava’, the 550th-year celebration of the mutt.
