Father Alfredo Munoz, stepmother Kelly Munoz arrested for murder, torture in death of 14-month-old girl in Long Beach, California

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A California father and stepmother have been arrested for torture and murder in the death of a 14-month-old girl, police said.

Officers responded to a local hospital regarding a possible child abuse incident on Nov. 7. The 14-month-old had been unresponsive and had signs of trauma, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Detectives were notified later that the child was on life support and would not survive. She died on Nov. 10 as a result of abuse from her father and stepmother, according to LBPD.

The father and stepmother were identified as 40-year-old Alfredo Munoz and 34-year-old Kelly Munoz of Long Beach.

Both the child’s father and the stepmother were booked for murder, torture and child abuse causing death.

Homicide detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office next week for filing consideration.
