Padel court takes shape opposite Burj Khalifa

A padel court is going up in the Dubai Opera Garden, across from the Burj Khalifa, ahead of this month’s Emaar Dubai Premier Padel P1.

Organisers have named it the “World’s Most Iconic Padel Court”. They have not yet said what it will look like, when it will open, or whether any tournament matches will be played on it. Those details, along with plans for the court’s design and the activities around it, are due to be announced before the event starts.

The tournament itself runs over eight days at Hamdan Sports Complex from 8 to 15 November. Men’s and women’s main draws will play for ranking points and prize money. Several of the world’s top-ranked players are confirmed, including Agustín Tapia, Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán in the men’s field, and Delfi Brea and Bea González in the women’s.

The event opens with a showcase. Organisers have not said whether that takes place at the new court or at Hamdan. Fan zones, hospitality and entertainment will run alongside the matches.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, said holding the main draw at Hamdan while staging events at city landmarks would help the sport reach more people.

“Hosting the tournament’s main competitions at the Hamdan Sports Complex, alongside distinctive initiatives staged at the emirate’s prominent landmarks, reflects the integration between Dubai’s world-class sporting infrastructure and its global attractions,” he said.

Ivan Modia, chief executive of Gallop Global and tournament director, said the new court was part of a push to bring padel to fans who might not otherwise watch it.

“With the support of Emaar, we are taking a new step toward solidifying Dubai’s position as a global destination for padel and bringing the sport closer to a wider audience.”
