Adelaide’s bagel obsession is showing no signs of slowing down, and Frankly Bagels is keeping the excitement rolling with another location.
And this time they’re bringing a new sweet treat, an in-house bakery and a much-needed dose of cafe culture to Tonsley.
While you might have seen a similar in-house bakery at their Norwood location, this one is set to be even bigger, giving the team more room to get creative with new flavours, sweet treats and even more of the freshly baked goodness Adelaide has come to love.
“What we found at Norwood was that we outgrew the space relatively quickly,” co-founder Christie explained.
Christie revealed the Tonsley location has been in the works for more than a year, with the team currently aiming for a mid-November opening.
Frankly’s Kent Town location may have opened first, but Tonsley was actually part of the original expansion plan.
And the exciting part for customers is what’s coming out of the ovens.
Alongside the signature filled bagels, Tonsley’s menu will introduce a wider variety of traditional bagel flavours, including blueberry and onion, plus new savoury options.
The popular bacon and egg bagel will continue to be a favourite, while the fried chicken bagel, previously offered as a special, is earning a permanent spot on the Tonsley menu.
And for those with a sweet tooth, there’s something particularly exciting on the way.
“We’re also expanding on our sweets range. So we’re going to bring out a line of delicious donuts, which we’re so excited about because they taste amazing in our testing.”
Safe to say, we can expect plenty more sweet treats, bagel varieties and reasons to make a return visit.
But beyond the food, Frankly Bagels has its sights set on bringing something new to Tonsley itself.
Known for its industrial history and growing residential community, Tonsley is continuing to evolve, and Christie hopes Frankly will become a welcoming gathering place for the people who live and work nearby.
“It’s really missing that cafe culture. So, we wanted to be the ones to bring that into Tonsley,” Christie said.
With some customers already travelling more than an hour to visit the brand’s existing Prospect and Norwood stores, the new location will also give bagel lovers in Adelaide’s south somewhere much closer to satisfy their cravings.
Christie said the response from locals watching the space take shape has already been encouraging.
“I think people will be really excited to have a place like that where they can go and hang out and get some yummy lunch, and it just becomes like one of those focal points of the community.”
The final stages of the fit-out are underway, with the team now focused on installing and fine-tuning its new bakery equipment before welcoming customers. And while plans for any launch-day celebrations are yet to be confirmed, Frankly Bagels are keen to open their doors soon.
For Adelaide’s southern suburbs, that means bigger bakery dreams, fresh donuts, loaded bagels and a new local spot to settle in for coffee and a catch-up.
