A 14-year-old student was arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded gun to his Back Bay school on Wednesday, police said.

The morning of Oct. 28, Boston police officers responded to Snowden International School on Newbury Street, the department said in an alert. Someone from the school told officers that the school had learned a student was carrying a gun and pointed out the specific student, police said.

Officers frisked the student and found that he was carrying a gun in his waistband, the department wrote. Officers arrested the boy, whom police identified as a 14-year-old from Roxbury.

The gun was a Smith and Wesson ghost gun that was loaded with ten rounds of live ammunition, according to the department. Ghost guns are typically made by an individual, not a manufacturer, and are hard to trace because they lack serial numbers.

The student is expected to be arraigned in juvenile court on charges of delinquent to wit; unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID card, police wrote.

A representative for Snowden International School did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night. The school, which is part of Boston Public Schools, describes itself as having a “demanding college preparatory curriculum focused on global studies.”

In 2024, a 15-year-old student was arrested at the school for allegedly carrying a loaded gun on school grounds.
