When asked about Kane receiving a knighthood, they said: “On your question about a knighthood, I think everyone would agree, Harry Kane has given an enormous amount to English football, and this is a very special moment for him and the country, but, as ever, I’m not going to pre-empt the honours process.”

Michael Owen was the last English player to win the individual accolade in 2001, but Kane’s incredible season saw him crowned the best.

He had a memorable campaign with Bayern, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and German Supercup.

Kane won his second consecutive European Golden Shoe, netting 36 league goals in 31 appearances for his club.
