Westborough town officials have so far been tight-lipped about the police chief’s involvement in the Shrewsbury call.
Westborough Police Chief Todd Minardi was placed on administrative leave Saturday following a Shrewsbury police response the day before that involved him, town officials said.
The Shrewsbury Police Department responded to a call for service Friday that involved Minardi, the Town of Westborough said in a statement on Facebook. The town did not provide specific details about the response or explain how Minardi was involved.
After the town learned about the situation, Minardi was placed on administrative leave, Westborough officials said. The town said it has since begun taking steps to retain an outside investigator who will look into the matter further.
While Minardi is on leave, Westborough’s deputy police chief will oversee the police department’s day-to-day operations, officials said.
The town declined to comment further due to the situation being an ongoing personnel matter.
Shrewsbury police have not released further information about their department’s response. Police Chief Kevin Anderson did not immediately respond to requests for a comment or additional details Sunday evening.
Minardi, a lifelong Westborough resident, joined the police department as a reserve officer in 1994 and was promoted to chief in 2023, according to the MetroWest Daily News. In September, he received the 2026 Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association Community Policing Award.
