One of the people injured in the crash was trapped underneath the vehicle, according to emergency responders.
Three people were injured after a pickup truck crashed through the wall of a Fall River home on Saturday, according to emergency responders.
City police responded to a home on Brayton Avenue for a report of injuries caused by a vehicle running into a building, Fall River Emergency Medical Services said on Facebook. A nearby police lieutenant arrived at the scene within seconds of the dispatch and “rendered immediate aid” to a person he found trapped underneath the vehicle, Fall River EMS wrote.
EMS, firefighters, and more police officers arrived a short time later and found one person trapped inside the truck along with the person who was stuck under it, according to Fall River EMS.
Fire department personnel freed the person stuck under the vehicle after 30 to 40 minutes of rescue efforts, emergency responders said. One person was transported to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center, and two others were taken to local hospitals.
“At this time, the extent of injuries to the patients are unknown,” Fall River EMS said.
Photos shared by first responders on Facebook show a large white pickup truck with its front half crashed through the wall of a home, crushing a couch inside.
Live wires with active sparks coming from the house and truck impeded the rescue operation, Fall River EMS said. First responders contacted National Grid, which cut all power to the house so that rescue efforts could continue safely.
The crash caused “extensive structural damage” and displaced all of the building’s occupants, Fall River Firefighters said on Facebook. The electrical service on the outside of the building was also damaged, causing the live wires and sparks.
“We want to remind all drivers to be cautious when driving, to drive the speed limit and to always wear your seatbelt!” Fall River EMS said. “Incredible teamwork by all emergency crews on scene!”
