Yung Miami may be moving forward with her solo career, but she’s not ready to leave her history with former City Girls groupmate JT in the past—PERIODT! The Miami rapper got candid about their fractured friendship during an Oct. 23 appearance on Hot 97 with Nessa, the same day she dropped her debut solo studio album, What Dis! — and revealed that she “cried” making her emotional track “Dear JT.”
The song finds Miami reflecting on the bond she and JT built long before the fame, hit records and public fallout. And while their relationship may look different today, Miami made it clear that the years they spent building the City Girls together will always mean something to her.
“Just with a friend, a person that I grew up with, a person that I started this with – I’m never gonna forget when we started,” Yung Miami told Nessa, getting emotional. “It’s how I feel right now. I don’t know how I’ll feel next year.”
Yung Miami Says She and JT Grew Apart.
The emotional track comes after Miami previously opened up about the breakdown of their friendship during an interview with Charlamagne Tha God in March. At the time, she explained that she felt the two had outgrown one another, with different mindsets, creative differences and evolving approaches to music contributing to their split.
Miami also pointed to a noticeable “shift” in JT after she returned home from prison in 2020, following a sentence related to credit card fraud and identity theft. Although the former groupmates had spoken since their falling-out, Miami said their attempts to work through their issues often ended with both women “pointing the finger” at each other over past hurts.

Now, with “Dear JT,” Miami appears ready to put her feelings on the table and acknowledge just how much she misses the friendship they once shared. In “Dear JT,” Miami calls for a reconciliation, rapping:
“Sh*t crazy now, our relationship ain’t what it used to be/ We supposed to been together, but I guess it ain’t meant to be/ Sis, we could’ve made history And we done grew apart, now that’s no more.”
The lyrics capture the complicated feelings of watching a once-unbreakable bond change, especially when that relationship helped shape both women’s lives and careers. And rather than pretend their history never happened, Miami is choosing to be honest about what the friendship still means to her.
“This Is Genuinely From My Heart.”
During her Hot 97 conversation, Miami explained that releasing the song was her way of addressing the pain surrounding their friendship and, potentially, opening the door to a conversation with JT.
“This is what’s on my heart. I’m a mom. I have kids. Like I know what it’s like to lose somebody. I lost a baby dad,” Miami explained. “I lost people that was important to me. So it’s like I’m not gonna just make it seem like this never happened, this not history, we didn’t do this together. Like no, this is how I feel. This is my sister. I’m gonna put it out there. I don’t care what the world feels. I don’t know. I don’t care how they take it. This is for me,” she continued. “This is genuinely from my heart.”
Miami’s words suggest that this isn’t about winning a public back-and-forth or getting the internet on her side. It’s about acknowledging a relationship that played a major role in her life, regardless of where things stand today.
When Nessa asked the hitmaker whether she had played the song for JT before the album’s release, Miami simply replied, “No.”
So, has she left room for JT to reach out? Absolutely.
“Do you want to hear from her?” Nessa asked.
Miami said she would welcome a conversation and hopes the opportunity presents itself.
“I mean, inshallah, I put my feelings out there, and if the phone call happens, I’m gonna answer it, and we’ll go from there,” she said, adding:
“People wait until it’s too late. People wait until like death or something… Like I wish I made it right… I wish I would have did it. Like sometimes it’s like if it ain’t nothing that you can’t come from, why not try to fix it? We don’t gotta be how we used to, but it don’t have to be a point to where we never speak it again. I think that life is so short.”
Could a City Girls Reunion Still Happen?
The possibility of reconciliation isn’t entirely new. During an Oct. 16 interview for a live Pandora Playback session with FlyGuyDC, Miami was asked about the possibility of reuniting with JT.
Around the 34:19 mark of the interview, FlyGuyDC referenced a line from Miami’s song “Watch Dis,” in which she raps, “This ain’t JT, but I’m getting money like JT.” Miami clarified that she was referring to rapper JT Money, not her former groupmate. However, when asked about the last time she spoke to JT, the “Spend Dat” artist replied, “I think it was her birthday, like, two years ago.”
The two rappers’ strained relationship became especially visible in April 2024, when they exchanged words publicly on X. Miami accused JT of “sneak dissing” her in her music, prompting JT to push back and accuse her former groupmate of feigning ignorance and potentially envying her success. JT also suggested they meet face-to-face to hash out their differences. Although the two appeared to move past that particular exchange, their friendship remained a topic of conversation among fans.
Elsewhere in her conversation with FlyGuyDC, Miami reflected on the success of City Girls’ 2018 hit “Act Up,” describing herself and JT as “two young girls from the hood” who managed to create a “hit song.”
And when the conversation turned to whether fans might hear the former duo together on a track again, Miami left the possibility open.
“I mean, inshallah,” she replied.
For now, there are no guarantees that the City Girls will reunite or that Miami and JT will get their friendship back on track. But between “Dear JT” and Miami’s willingness to answer the phone if her former bestie calls, it seems the door isn’t completely closed.
Fans Are Rooting for the Friendship
Unsurprisingly, Miami’s vulnerable lyrics and candid comments have sparked conversations among fans, with many applauding her willingness to acknowledge the friendship rather than let pride have the final say.
“Aw wait this lowkey so cute, yes we fight for guys everyday why wouldn’t we fight for the friends we care about!!!!”
Another shared their support for Miami’s honesty:
“I love this tbh. This is maturity, vulnerability and living in your truth. No matter what happens she isn’t holding on to the pain. God bless.”
And one fan was already looking ahead to what could happen next, asking:
“Is there room on the table for a reunion?”
Whether that reunion means a heartfelt conversation, a renewed friendship or another City Girls record remains to be seen. But Yung Miami has made one thing clear: the bond she and JT built isn’t something she can simply erase, and she seems ready to find her way back to her friend. We’re praying for these two!
