Netflix is bringing a new survival drama based on the late Shirley Conran’s bestselling novel Savages to Queensland, with filming underway across the Gold Coast, Hinterland and Whitsunday Islands.
Feral stars Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), Genevieve O’Reilly (Andor) and Australian actress Philippa Northeast (My Brilliant Career, Territory) in a darkly funny story of survival, danger and deadly secrets.
Dockery will play Julia, Gunning will play Annie, O’Reilly will play Silvana and Northeast will play Suzy, while Triangle of Sadness star Dolly de Leon (pictured below) joins the cast as Elena.

The series follows four women who accompany their mining executive husbands on a corporate holiday to a tropical island, where the men’s shady business dealings leave them fighting to survive the jungle and each other.
Written by Jude Mack and directed by Gold Coast filmmaker Emma Freeman (Clickbait, Two Years Later), Feral is produced by Hera Pictures in association with Warner Bros. International Television Production, with seven 60-minute episodes planned.
Writer and executive producer Jude Mack described the series as a journey of self-discovery centred on its unconventional female characters.
Feral is a wild, messy journey of self-discovery and it’s a complete dream to be carrying Shirley Conran’s torch alongside Hera and Netflix.
Hera Pictures founder and executive producer Liza Marshall said the adaptation would push its central characters to extremes while embracing the scale and ambition of Conran’s story.
The extraordinary female characters at the heart of the show will be pushed to extremes, behave deliciously badly and have a whole lot of fun along the way.
Queensland Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the production would contribute an estimated $38.5 million to the local economy and employ more than 250 cast and crew, while supporting businesses across South East Queensland and North Queensland.
The production is supported by the Australian Government through the Location Offset, the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, and the Gold Coast Film Commission and Invest Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program.
Feral is currently filming in Queensland, with a Netflix release date yet to be announced.
