Chad Tracy might be sticking around as the Red Sox’ full-time manager moving forward.
But Boston is reshuffling some of his coaching staff ahead of a busy offseason for the Red Sox and MLB as a whole.
According to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe, Boston is reassigning two coaches on Tracy’s staff to developmental roles within the organization.
Chad Epperson, who served as the team’s third-base coach for most of last year, will take over as manager of the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox in 2027.
Pablo Cabrera, Boston’s first-base coach and outfield instructor, will return to his previous role as a defensive coordinator in Boston’s farm system.
Epperson and Cabrera’s new roles will create two coaching vacancies on Tracy’s staff for the 2027 season.
Healey noted that uncertainty remains about the future of other personnel on Tracy’s coaching staff, many of whom operated with an interim tag amid Boston’s early-season coaching reshuffle.
Bench coach José David Flores, hitting coaches Collin Hetzler and Nelson Paulino, and bullpen catcher Drew Ehrhard are still serving in interim roles, with Flores previously serving as Boston’s first-base coach under Alex Cora and both Hetzler and Paulino being promoted from minor-league roles.
Boston’s overall coaching hierarchy was turned on its head in late April after the Red Sox chose to fire Cora amid a 10-17 start.
Boston also dismissed five other coaches on Cora’s staff, including hitting coach Pete Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, and major league strategy coach Joe Cronin.
Boston also “reassigned” game planning and run prevention coach Jason Varitek to a new role within the organization, although the former Red Sox catcher has not re-joined the team in any official capacity since late April.
