Dubai’s Victory Team, which has competed in international powerboat racing for more than three decades, is to be the subject of a new five-part documentary series.
Titled The Blue Dynasty: Made in Dubai, the series will trace the team’s history, from its early years and period of international success to the rivalries and challenges faced by its racers, engineers and support staff.
The project follows an agreement announced on Tuesday, October 20, between Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) and Dubai-based production company Watch My i (WMi).
The series is currently in development, with a first look due to be released alongside footage from the partnership signing. No release date or broadcaster has been confirmed.
Victory Team has represented Dubai in international powerboat racing since the early 1990s. Based at DIMC, the team competes in championships sanctioned by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).
Mohammed Abdulla Harib Al Falahi, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai International Marine Club, said the documentary would recognise the Emiratis who helped establish the team.
“Victory Team has raced for Dubai at world level since the early 1990s, and its story belongs to the Emirati racers, engineers and staff whose combined efforts built its achievements and its distinguished record.”
“This series is a chance to record that story with care and to show a new generation what it takes to win on the world stage.”
The filmmakers also intend to explore Dubai during the 1980s and 1990s, when the city’s international sporting presence was developing and Victory Team was establishing its reputation.
Sened Gomera, Head of Growth at Watch My i, said the documentary would focus on the team’s achievements and the people involved, while examining the culture of Dubai during that period.
The partnership could also lead to a separate reality series following Dubai’s marine sports athletes through their competitive seasons.
That proposed series would cover training, race preparation and competition, with cameras following athletes both on and off the water.
DIMC and WMi hope the productions will introduce marine sports to new audiences, attract more spectators to events and create sponsorship opportunities for the athletes involved.
Founded in 1988, Dubai International Marine Club hosts traditional and modern watersports, including dhow sailing, rowing, powerboat racing, aquabike and kayaking.
The documentary will be the first production announced under its agreement with Watch My i, although details of its distribution have yet to be released.
