Former boxing world champion found not guilty of assault

He told the court he had seen O’Brien staring at him while he was filling his car and called him to come over, but the 33-year-old responded: “You come here.”

Cordina said O’Brien “barged” him and he acted in self-defence, saying: “He had his hands in his pockets, I don’t know what people carry on them these days.”

The former world champion said he would “pretty much” lose his boxing licence if he received a criminal conviction, and this “100 per cent” had an impact on his daily behaviour.

Cordina denied any wrongdoing throughout the trial.
