Melissa Dunbar, who recently achieved the prestigious Champagne Master designation, will host an intimate tasting and three-course lunch at Bespoke at Oval Hotel on Friday, 23 October.
The event will give guests the opportunity to explore six French sparkling wines, including three Crémants and three Champagnes, while learning about the history, producers and craftsmanship behind France’s celebrated wine region.
Dunbar’s recent accreditation places her among a select group of wine professionals recognised for their Champagne expertise. Through her business, Under the Vines, she has built a reputation for introducing Australian audiences to French wines through educational tasting experiences.
The celebration comes as Australia’s appetite for Champagne continues to grow. According to figures supplied by the Comité Champagne, more than 7.5 million bottles were shipped to Australia in 2025, an increase of 3.5 per cent on the previous year, making Australia the world’s seventh-largest Champagne market.
“Australia is one of the few Champagne markets still growing, and we are seeing more curiosity than ever about the stories, people and craftsmanship behind every bottle,” Dunbar said.
“International Champagne Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate that passion and introduce South Australians to some truly exceptional producers.”
The afternoon will begin at noon with French bubbles on arrival, followed by a guided tasting alongside a chef-inspired three-course lunch and full beverage package.
Guests will also receive a 750ml bottle of Terre Natale Champagne from the award-winning Champagne Vaucelle house to take home, valued at $130. The premium Champagne has previously been served at the French President’s Palace.
Another highlight will be the opportunity to taste Vallons, a Champagne recognised in Champagne Vaucelle’s recent awards.
Presented in partnership with Adelaide Oval and Under the Vines, the experience will also offer a rare opportunity for non-members to enjoy an event typically associated with Adelaide Oval’s premium hospitality offering.
Adelaide Oval General Manager Sales and Partnerships Jo Thomson said a limited number of tables had been made available to the public.
“We have for this event been able to extend our numbers and have allocated several tables that can be booked by non-members for a once-off chance to experience firsthand what it’s like to be one of our club members,” Thomson said.
With International Champagne Day falling on Friday, the event offers wine enthusiasts the chance to discover lesser-known French producers, compare different sparkling wine styles and learn directly from one of Australia’s newest accredited Champagne specialists.
