Between the wasted defensive performance early in the game, a putrid offensive outing, and a continuous line at the blue medical tent — it’s becoming a tough way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Philly these days watching the Eagles (2–4.) That was a good way to sum up the game against Wynnewood, PA’s Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in a 25–14 Eagles loss.

The Eagles squandered another solid outing on defense as Bryce Young was unsettled early. Carolina opened the game after a twenty-six yard Trevor Etienne punt return with a field goal that nearly missed — giving the Panthers a 3–0 lead. Both offenses would trade possessions before Carolina went on a 35-yard drive ending in a 12-yard Bryce Young to Tommy Tremble touchdown pass.

The Eagles did show some life in the second quarter with a 78-yard drive before halftime culminating in a two-yard Damien Pierce touchdown run with 2:42 left in the first half. But the Eagles gave up field position right after halftime — and Carolina subsequently settled for yet another field goal.

Momentum appeared to shift when the Lincoln Financial Field faithful even went back and forth with the referees leading to an intentional grounding call. But Carolina then marched 92-yards including some Bryce Young runs — and scored on a one-yard Chuba Hubbard touchdown run. Carolina then missed the two-point conversion.

The Eagles responded — going 69-yards and scored on a Tanner McKee to Devonta Smith 19-yard score. But momentum was lost when Carolina successfully blocked Braden Mann punt. Bryce Young then found former Notre Damer Tommy Tremble for a 19-yard score. The Eagles then turned the ball over on downs on a 4th and 17 and the Panthers were able to run out the clock.

And of course — we had the injuries. Jalen Hurts is out due to a blood clot and Landon Dickerson didn’t suit up. The Eagles lost Carson Steele, Devonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Jordan Davis, and Nolan Smith during the game. Braden Mann also appeared to be limping on the sideline.

Carolina set a record for penalty yards during the game. This is the first time that Nick Sirianni has lost four in a row in his career.

The Eagles managed just 222 yards of total offense.
