Adelaide weather forecast for Sunday October 18th and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a changeable week, with warm spring weather set to give way to showers, possible thunderstorms and a noticeable cool-down before sunshine returns later in the week. After a mostly sunny Sunday across the city, conditions stay warm into Monday, but the middle of the week looks far less settled, with Tuesday shaping up as the day to watch.

Today in Adelaide will be bright and pleasant, with mostly sunny skies and a top of 29 degrees. Northeasterly winds will keep things feeling warm through the afternoon, while coastal areas and the hills will sit only slightly cooler. It’s a handy day to get outdoors, though the UV will be very high, with sun protection recommended from 9:20am to 4:30pm.

Monday keeps that warm run going, with a partly cloudy sky and another top of 29 degrees. Winds from the north and northeast will freshen at times before easing later in the day. While much of the daytime should stay dry, there is a slight chance of a shower at night and the possibility of a thunderstorm developing after dark as a trough moves closer to the state.

That trough reaches Adelaide more directly on Tuesday, bringing the wettest and most unsettled day of the seven-day stretch. Showers are likely, especially in the morning, and there is also the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. The Bureau says storms could become severe, with heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding. Temperatures will also dip, with the city only expected to reach 23 degrees after a mild overnight low of 16.

By Wednesday, conditions begin to settle, though Adelaide won’t clear completely straight away. Partly cloudy skies are forecast, with a slight chance of a morning thunderstorm about the northern suburbs. The top will edge up to 24 degrees, with lighter winds returning by evening.

A much brighter turn arrives on Thursday, with mostly sunny conditions and a jump back to 29 degrees. After the midweek showers, it looks like the pick of the week for anyone planning outdoor events, lunches or an evening by the coast.

Friday becomes a little more mixed again, with partly cloudy skies and a medium chance of a shower. The temperature eases back to 26 degrees, with winds turning south to southwesterly during the day. Saturday stays on the cooler side, with another medium chance of showers and a top of 21 degrees, closing out the week with a softer, cloudier feel.

Across South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a trough moving in from Western Australia, along with a weakening cold front crossing the Bight. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the west late Sunday before spreading into central and southeastern districts on Monday. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the focus for showers and storms shifts to the east and north of the state.

Temperatures across SA are generally expected to remain above average through the period, with central parts especially warm early in the week. Rainfall totals are likely to stay modest in many districts, but thunderstorms could produce heavier local falls, especially in the southeast where 15 to 25 mm is possible. Coastal waters off Adelaide also remain relatively manageable, with seas below 1 metre through midweek, though the chance of thunderstorms on Monday evening and Tuesday will be worth keeping an eye on for anyone heading out on the water.

Happy Sunday!
