Driver accused of multiple hit-and-run crashes allegedly bites officer during Adelaide arrest

A driver is accused of violently lashing out at police officers arresting her over a string of alleged hit-and-run incidents in Adelaide.

The incident kicked off in the city’s northeastern suburbs, when the 32-year-old Pookara woman allegedly smashed into a car on Montague Rd and Ingle Farm just after midnight, on Sunday.

She is accused of fleeing in her Toyota RAV4 and then becoming involved in three more hit-and-run crashes.

A member of the public called police shortly after, reporting a RAV4 allegedly gunning toward the city from Medindie.

It was reported driving “dangerously and on the wrong side of the road,” police allege.

The car came to a stop in a head-on collision with a Mini Cooper on Mann Rd at North Adelaide.

The Mawson Lakes woman driving the Mini was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.

As police closed in on the Pookara woman, she allegedly became violent.

“The woman punched a police officer numerous times and bit another officer on the finger as she was being arrested,” police allege.

“The police officers involved were not seriously injured.”

The woman has not yet been charged, but is expected to be once she is deemed “medically fit”.

Police said she will likely be charged with three counts of driving without due care, three counts of speed dangerous, two counts of failing to stop at a crash scene, and aggravated assault of a prescribed emergency worker.
