A 19-year-old girl, Mahalakshmi, died while undergoing treatment after a 22-year-old youth allegedly slit her throat at New Rajarajeswaripeta in Vijayawada on Saturday.
The youth, M. Chinna Rao, a native of Srikakulam district, later jumped from a multi-storeyed building and died on the spot after suffering multiple injuries, according to the police. He had reportedly migrated to Vijayawada a couple of years ago.
Police said Chinna Rao had allegedly been stalking Mahalakshmi and had proposed marriage to her. He had reportedly approached her family members seeking their consent for the marriage, but they rejected his proposal.
Mahalakshmi was admitted to the Government General Hospital (GGH) with severe injuries. She died while undergoing treatment, the police said.
The Satyanarayanapuram police registered a case and launched an investigation. The bodies of Chinna Rao and Mahalakshmi were shifted to the GGH mortuary for post-mortem, the police said.
