Elton John ‘very upset’ with beloved football team as music icon shares feelings on club’s decline

Sir Elton John shared he is “very upset” with his beloved football club Watford’s decline.

The Hornets lost in heavy fashion to an out-of-form Burnley 4-0 at home, with Sir Elton, who previously owned the Championship club, making his feelings clear.

Reacting to Watford’s social media post sharing the result, the music icon said: “As a lifetime supporter of Watford FC, I am very upset and disappointed at the decline over the past few weeks.

“I really feel for the other supporters who have to watch this.”

Fans reacted to Sir Elton’s comment on Instagram, which has amassed over 1,300 likes.

One user wrote: “You tell ’em, Elton. The club is now unrecognisable to when you and Graham Taylor were at the helm.

“We are all suffering as fans who have seen a systematic decline and neglect at the hands of the ownership, who are running it solely to extract last-minute revenue like vultures around a decaying body.”

Another said: “When Sir Elton speaks, we all listen! Change should have happened a long time ago. Watford fans, you know what to do.”

Watford sit two spots from the bottom three, having only won twice in their first nine league games.

The defeat yesterday comes ahead of a trip to Cardiff, who sit one spot below the Hornets in the league, also in desperate need of a win.

Watford manager Alessio Dionisi was fuming following the result, issuing an apology to supporters for his team’s performance.

He said: “I’m very angry because it is impossible when after 25 minutes it is 3-0. Today, I didn’t like everyone. The coach, the staff, everyone.

“I didn’t see the same attitude as the first and second matches at home against Southampton and West Ham, or what I’ve seen at the training ground.

“The only thing to say to our supporters is ‘I’m sorry’. It’s impossible to find anything positive. Today is difficult to explain.”

Speaking ahead of Watford’s clash against Cardiff, Dionisi said: “Now is not a good moment. It is clear.

“We work every day, and now it’s important to work well, and work better. After this match, there is another match. After a bad day, there is another day.

“When you win, it is normal to speak. Now, it is better to work, believe and improve.”
