Adelaide weather forecast for Sunday October 11th and the days ahead

Adelaide is in for a changeable start to the week, with warm conditions and the risk of showers and severe thunderstorms today before a much cooler run settles in across the city. After Sunday’s unsettled weather, temperatures are set to drop sharply on Monday, with calmer and brighter spring conditions gradually returning by the second half of the week.

For Adelaide, today is shaping up as the most active day in the seven-day outlook. Cloud will build through the day, with showers becoming likely this afternoon and evening, and there’s also the chance of a thunderstorm that could turn severe with damaging winds. Northeasterly winds will swing around to the north and northwest through the morning before easing later in the evening. The city is heading for a top of 28 degrees, with nearby suburbs including Elizabeth reaching 29 degrees, while Noarlunga stays a little cooler at 26. If you’re out and about later today, it’s worth keeping an eye on the radar and any warning updates, especially with heavy bursts, squally winds and storm activity possible.

By Monday, Adelaide will feel noticeably cooler. There’s only a slight chance of a shower in the early morning, along with a possible thunderstorm early, but the more dramatic weather should be clearing away as the day goes on. A southwesterly change will keep things brisk, before winds tend more southerly into the evening. The temperature will struggle to 19 degrees after an overnight low of 13.

Tuesday keeps the cooler pattern in place. It’s expected to be cloudy, with just a slight chance of a shower during the morning and afternoon, and south to southwesterly winds maintaining that fresh spring chill. Adelaide is forecast to reach 18 degrees after a cold start of 11.

Midweek brings a steadier outlook. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with light winds becoming easterly during the morning, and a top of 19 after a low of 8. From there, conditions improve nicely. Thursday looks mostly sunny and a little milder, with 21 degrees forecast. Friday continues the warming trend with partly cloudy skies and 24 degrees, while Saturday rounds out the week on a bright note, with mostly sunny conditions and a top of 25 degrees. In short, Adelaide’s week looks like one of two halves: stormy and unsettled at first, then cool, calm and increasingly sunny as the weekend approaches.

Across South Australia, the broader picture is far more active, particularly away from the metro area. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to spread from the northwest into central and eastern parts today, with severe thunderstorms possible and bringing damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding. On Monday, showers and storms will continue across central and eastern districts early before contracting northeast, while the northwest remains unsettled. Conditions stay cool through Tuesday and Wednesday, with below to well below average temperatures across much of the state. The far north and northwest are set to see the most persistent storm activity, and rainfall totals by the end of Wednesday could reach 20 to 40 mm in the far north, with localised falls of 40 to 50 mm possible where severe thunderstorms develop. Coastal waters near Adelaide may also turn choppy at times today and Monday, with possible squalls during thunderstorms.
