In a complaint addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner and seen by The Hindu, AISA alleged that Ms. Neha was taken away at around 5 p.m. from Ashoka Road, near the Shangri-La hotel and Jantar Mantar, by male police personnel who were not wearing name badges.

The organisation alleged that she was taken in a private Maruti Suzuki Ertiga bearing registration number ‘DL1CAH9693’ and that there was no woman police personnel in the vehicle.

“Since then, no person has been able to contact Neha or to locate her whereabouts, including her friends and associates who were present with her at the protest site,” the complaint said.

The organisation described the incident as an “abduction and illegal detention” and expressed concern over Ms. Neha’s safety.

AISA also alleged that the police had not informed the organisation or her associates where she had been taken.

The incident took place during a citizens’ march from India Gate to Jantar Mantar that was called for Sunday (October 4).

The organisation further claimed that keeping a woman in police custody after sunset was illegal and alleged that the lack of information about Ms. Neha’s detention and whereabouts amounted to illegal confinement. It urged the Delhi Police Commissioner to treat the matter with “utmost urgency” and release Ms. Neha immediately.

The allegations in the complaint could not be independently verified immediately.
