Adelaide weather forecast for Sunday October 4th and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a cool and mostly settled start to the week, with only a small chance of rain today before sunshine and warmer temperatures build later in the week. After a grey Sunday and a brief shower risk on Tuesday, conditions are set to turn brighter across the city, with Thursday looking like the pick of the next seven days before wet weather returns by Friday.

For the rest of Sunday, Adelaide can expect cloudy skies and light winds, with just a slight chance of a shower later this afternoon or into the evening. The city is only expected to reach 20 degrees, keeping things noticeably mild for early October. Monday stays on the cool side too, but conditions should improve, with cloud clearing and only a very slim chance of rain. Light winds will become westerly during the afternoon before easing again, with temperatures holding at a top of 20 degrees after a low of 12 overnight.

Tuesday brings the next real change, with a medium chance of showers, especially through the morning, as a front moves through the southeast of the state. Adelaide’s top will again sit around 20 degrees, and winds will swing from northwesterly to southwesterly before turning southeasterly by evening, making for a cooler feel at times. By Wednesday, the city should shake that system off quickly, with sunny skies returning and a colder morning low of 9 degrees before a much more comfortable 23-degree afternoon.

The warming trend becomes more obvious on Thursday, when Adelaide is forecast to enjoy sunshine and a top of 28 degrees under fresh easterly and north-easterly winds. It looks like the warmest and brightest day of the week, and a good reminder that spring can turn things around quickly. That settled run does not last long though, with Friday shaping up as the wettest day in the seven-day outlook. Showers are very likely, with 2 to 15 mm possible and a top of 24 degrees. Saturday stays unsettled, with showers likely in the morning before easing later in the day, and a cooler maximum of 19 degrees as westerly winds shift southwesterly.

Across South Australia, today’s broad pattern is more active than Adelaide’s relatively quiet outlook suggests. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the west, extending into central and eastern parts of the state during the day, while temperatures remain below average and even well below average in the north.

Monday looks mostly dry for much of SA, although the far north could still see an isolated shower or thunderstorm, and patchy morning fog is possible in the far west. Tuesday keeps showers over the southern agricultural area before they clear during the day, while inland and eastern parts remain on the cooler side. By Wednesday, conditions dry out across the state, though the west is expected to warm above average while the east stays cooler.

Rainfall totals through to the end of Wednesday are generally light in agricultural districts and the far northeast, but parts of the North West Pastoral could pick up 10 to 15 mm, with isolated falls of up to 30 mm.

Happy Sunday!
