Todd Monken sounds off on best part of 3-game winning streak

Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken must be feeling great after escaping the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.

The Cleveland Browns notched their third straight win—yes, a three-game winning streak—after hacking out a narrow win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-24, at Huntington Bank Field on Thursday.

Deshaun Watson led the Browns’ last-gasp drive, leading to Andre Szmyt’s game-winning field goal from a career-best 56 yards with 10 seconds left.

Cleveland has now won three straight outings after getting blown out by the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.

In the postgame conference, coach Todd Monken went philosophical about their early-season surge.

“The best part about continuing to win is that the next one matters,” said Monken, as quoted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Watson went 24-of-33 for 268 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also tallied 22 yards on seven carries. Quinshon Judkins also shone with 17 carries for 53 yards and one touchdown.

The Browns held a 14-point lead in the first half. But they allowed the Steelers to rally, led by Aaron Rodgers, to make it a nail-biting contest. Watson, however, remained unfazed and engineered a go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter for the third straight game.

Cleveland improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2021, while Pittsburgh fell to 2-2.

After their loss in Week 1, Monken called out critics for belittling them. He was also questioned for picking Watson over Shedeur Sanders as the starting quarterback. For now, he has silenced the doubters. But he should only get more fired up as they progress.

Cleveland bucked the exit of Mason Graham in the first quarter due to a knee injury.

The Browns will look to maintain their momentum in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.
