Deux Visages Are Bringing “lots of noise and new songs” to TLA with The Linda Lindas (10/4)

This month rock trio Deux Visages celebrate two official years in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection since relocating from Miami.  And tonight they kick off a five-date run supporting punk rockers The Linda Lindas (following a recent jaunt supporting our phriends Sweet Pill) which will have them at Theatre of Living Arts this Sunday, October 4th.  During a recent chat, the band — vocalist Daphney Hanono, guitarist Jack Chiu, and bassist Tony Jouvin — tell me that fans who show up to catch their set on Sunday can expect to hear a good chunk of their recently announced debut LP, Call It Goodbye, which drops November 6th via Pure Noise Records.

Izzy Cihak: Considering that this is a Philadelphia publication, and I think it’s been about two years since you’ve been here, what do you think about the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection?  Any favorite local things?  I know the weather might be a bit much, coming from Miami, but aside from that…

Daphney Hanono: Yes!  Hitting two years in October!  It’s been so great living here.  We love how vibrant the music scene is here and all the incredible people we’ve met.  We’re friends with some of our favorite bands, played some of our favorite shows, and met our manager in this city.  Some local favs definitely would be Druid’s Keep and Hello Vietnam.  Gotta love a dive bar and some Vietnamese iced coffee.

Tony Jouvin: No fav spots really.  Honestly, Philly is just such a fun city to just walk around in.  I love the atmosphere in this city, plus I feel like I can actually get around, unlike Miami.  Everyone is really nice here for the most part and starting conversations with people is so easy.

Jack Chiu: I love it here, especially the scene and the people we’ve had the pleasure of meeting.  It’s been a huge change for me.  I never wanted to leave, but for me and the band it always felt like a great choice.

Izzy: You recently announced your debut album, Call It Goodbye, which I know you consider to be a coming-of-age story of sorts.  How do you consider the LP to compare to your previously released singles and EP?  I know you had the intention of sort of reflecting on your past while also very much moving on from it…

Daphney: I love the LP so much compared to our EP.  Our hand was forced on making an EP with our previous label and I think maybe I hold a resentment towards the EP for that reason.  I wish we had real time to work on our EP songs like the LP.  The LP songs we’ve held onto for some years and it’s a true reflection of who we are and what we were going through at the time.  It’s the piece of work we’ve created that I’m most proud of.

Tony: It’s so weird because a good chunk of the album songs were written alongside the tracks on our EP but at the same time feel so different.  These new tracks really feel like an evolved version of our sound.

Jack: Like Daphney said, the EP was a rush job enforced by our label at the time, more than half of the album was already written before the EP was ever even considered.  The album is my favorite work of ours and it gives a wider scope of the sounds and feelings we wanted to portray.  We went through a lot between now and finally releasing it.  It has to do a lot with the point of life we were in, between being a kid and becoming an adult, and the nostalgia and the pressure associated with those experiences.

Izzy: Have you had any favorite reactions to the new music so far from fans or friends?  You’ve already dropped a couple singles, and I know you’ve been playing some of the songs live as well.

Daphney: My favorite reaction has been from people who have heard the album that really like this one song “Afterthought.”  I have a really close tie with that song personally and it surprises me that it’s some people’s favorite!

Tony: No specific reactions come to mind, but I think everyone’s loving our new stuff since the reception is so great at the shows.

Jack: Had some trouble in the beginning selling the “Always You” riff to the band.  They eventually grew to loving the song, especially after finally getting to the studio with it.  Seeing people really enjoying it, dancing and expressing how it makes them feel has been a great experience for me.

Izzy: You’ve actually put out really cool music videos for each of your singles that were directed by OD Blank.  What kinds of things inspire the visual elements of Deux Visages?

Daphney: Can’t take much credit because a lot of it is Frank, but we’re really inspired by early 2000’s nostalgia for this LP, so we’re trying to hone in those elements.  We wanted the album visuals to feel liminal and nostalgic, and Frank’s done an amazing job executing those ideas.

Tony: I wouldn’t say I have direct idols or influences when it comes to inspiration, but since we first started making music videos I’ve gotten in the habit of watching so many music videos and basically everything that I’ve missed in the last two decades.  So all the ideas are a combination of visuals that we love or something outside the box that we haven’t seen yet.

Jack: Frank (OD Blank) has done an amazing job of convening our songs into visuals.  We all love grain, texture, and dark atmosphere visuals.  Like Daph said, we wanted to lean toward a nostalgic style.

Izzy: You recently signed to Pure Noise Records, which is such a cool label.  How has it been working with them?

Daphney: It’s a world of a difference compared to our last label.  They love the music, which is huge plus, and they’ve been nothing but supportive.  We feel like they genuinely understand and it isn’t like pulling teeth when we need things.  It’s really nice to be with a label that’s centered around rock and really rooting for us.

Tony: Not much time has been spent together between us and Pure Noise, but it already feels like night and day compared to our last label relationship.  They’ve made us feel welcome and we can really feel their belief in our upcoming record.

Jack: Saying it again because it deserves to be emphasized, it’s been a complete 180 with them.  They really believe in us and our music.  We can feel the excitement and the team has been wonderful.

Izzy: You’re about to kick off a run of dates with The Linda Lindas, who I also totally love (Their show last year at UT with Pinkshift was totally great.)  What can be expected of the Deux Visages live show on these dates?  This will actually be my first time seeing you!

Daphney: New songs!  We’re playing a lot off the new album and we’re so stoked.  I feel like since we’re playing all the songs we love the energy is a lot higher on stage.

Tony: A few older tracks with some bangers off the new project.

Jack: Lots of noise and new songs.

Izzy: Actually, what are your thoughts on The Linda Lindas?  Are you fans, or even friends, of theirs?

Daphney: I’ve loved The Linda Lindas since their Tiny Desk performance!  They’re so sick and we actually got to meet up with them in LA.  They’re the sweetest people ever and we can’t wait to hit the road with them.

Tony: They’re so talented and so cool, not to mention friendly.  Our mini hang/content shoot recently in LA was a great time.  I’m excited to finally see them live and pick their brains about music while we’re on the road.

Jack: Super friendly and supportive.  I’m really excited to get the opportunity to open for them.  It’s gonna be so sick to see them live in person.  Their music is awesome.

Izzy: On a related note, you’ve toured with a bunch of really rad bands, like Mannequin Pussy, julie, and Sweet Pill.  Are there any acts that you dream of getting the chance to tour with, either because they seem like a perfect fit or you’re just huge fans?

Daphney: I would love to tour with beabadoobee and Wolf Alice.  I think they’re great bands and I’ve been a huge fan of theirs for a really long time!

Tony: The newest Basement album, Wired, was really cool.  I think a support run would work well with them, plus they sound so cool.

Jack: We’ve been so lucky to open for such cool bands we admire and listen to.  I’d love to open for feeble little horse, Slow Pulp, and Alvvays.

Izzy: Considering that we’re basically officially in “Spooky Szn,” I’m curious if you’re a fan of Halloween or this time of year?  If so, any favorite seasonal activities?

Daphney: I love Halloween time.  My personal favorite thing to do since moving to a colder region is sitting down and watching Twilight around this time.

Tony: This time of year is great; I love the weather.  I don’t really care for the holidays surrounding it or the campy activities too much, I really like to just take in the cool atmosphere, a rare delicacy for a buncha Floridians.

Jack: Gonna be spending a lot of time outside just enjoying the weather, decorating my room, and trying to secure some more tours for winter.

Izzy: Finally, how are you hoping to close out 2026, after these dates wrap mid-October?  Is there anything you’re especially excited about, whether relating to Deux Visages or otherwise?  There are still a lot of great shows coming through the 215: Wishy, feeble little horse, L7, After, Sweeping Promises, Julia Jacklin…

Daphney: I’m really excited to be playing some shows surrounding our album release after these dates in October!  These are our first headline shows in a bit and I’m excited to see how it goes.  I’m also super hyped for the album release, probably the thing I was looking forward to the most in 2026.

Tony: Other than finally dropping our album that we worked so hard on, I can’t say I’m excited about much else after that.  Maybe the snow, I’m really excited about the snow again.

Jack: It’s gonna be so euphoric finally being able to release our album.  I wanna catch feeble’s show after the tour.  I’m really excited to visit my family for the holidays.
