The Cleveland Browns earned a franchise first win with Todd Monken as head coach this past Sunday. But now they’re honoring a past franchise star in running back Nick Chubb. All through a one-day contract signed on Thursday.
Here’s the reason why: Chubb is retiring as a member of the Browns.
There’s more attached to the four-time Pro Bowl running back. He’ll also be honored during the upcoming contest against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Cleveland is making sure Chubb gets his roses now that he’s officially calling it a career. He established himself as one of Cleveland’s most beloved sports figures. Even during a time the city became dominated by past Cavaliers star LeBron James. Plus longtime Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett before his June blockbuster trade to the Los Angeles Rams.
Chubb is renown for delivering four straight 1,000-yard seasons as a Brown from 2019 to 2022. The latter campaign witnessed Chubb at his best: Tallying a career-high 1,525 yards. He also delivered a pair of 12-touchdown seasons in 2020 and 2022.
Chubb spent last season with the Houston Texans, who got him to taste the NFL playoffs for the second time in his career. That Texans team landed in the AFC Divisional Playoffs before falling to eventual conference champ New England.
Chubb entered NFL Free Agency during the 2026 offseason but never heard from any potential suitor. The longtime Browns star eventually retired from the league on Aug. 21, ending an illustrious eight season run. Chubb shared on his Instagram account that leaving the league following his second-ever playoff appearance allowed him to be at peace with his decision.
