While the news that Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest is getting an adaptation is nothing new, even for the GOT viewers out there – I include myself as one – it is rather challenging to keep up with who is who, and where this story fits in to the ever expanding mythical universe.
We do know that Aegon’s Conquest is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel and will be about Aegon I Targaryen’s invasion and unification of the Seven Kingdoms. So in the timeline of it all, this story line sits snug 300 years before the story of Game of Thrones and around 100 years before House of the Dragon. It will follows Aegon I Targaryen and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, as they conquer Westeros and establish the Targaryen dynasty. There will be some names and battles you will hear in this film that might have been told in either GOT or HOTD, so we don’t blame you if it all sounds confusing.
So, in order for a bit more clarity, below find a curated guide to the main characters in Aegon’s Conquest – because lets be real, we could be here forever if we touch on every single character. And stay tuned here for casting updates as to who might play these characters in the film.
Aegon I Targaryen
The OG Targaryen and conqueror if you will. He is the ambitious leader who brings six of Westeros’s Seven Kingdoms under his rule and established the Targaryen dynasty with his dragon Balerion, the Black Dread. Without giving too much of the story away, Balerion is known in the GOT universe for being the largest known Targaryen dragon with his size and black fire. He was also the last surviving creature known to have seen Old Valyria.
Visenya Targaryen
The warrior sister, and also older sister-wife of Aegon I. She is stern and formidable, and great in battle. You might know her dragon Vhagar, most commonly known in HOTD as Aemond’s dragon. Or from her sword that is called Dark Sister, that later becomes Daemon’s sword in HOTD.
Rhaenys Targaryen
Perhaps known as the more charismatic younger sister, she was also Aegon I’s second wife. Playful and adventurous, she rode Meraxes.
Orys Baratheon
A familiar last name, Orys was Aegon’s trust companion and rumoured half-brother. He helps the Targareyn’s conquer the Stormlands and established House Baratheon. Also known as the family of Robert, Stannis, and Renly in GOT.
Torrhen Stark
A very familiar name in GOT, Torrhen was also known as the King who knelt. He surrendered to spare his people from Aegon’s dragons.
Harren Hoare
Harren built Harrenhal that in GOT and HOTD was known for being the ruined castle. Harren was also known as Harren the Black due to his cruelty and believed his castle could withstand dragons…
Loren Lannister
You would know the Lannister name well if you watched GOT or HOTD. Loren was the final King of Casterly Rock that was against Aegon.
Meria Martell
Another one that refused to submit to Aegon, she was the Princess of Dorne. And by the time of the battle she was 80 years old, and was given the terrible nickname of Yellow Toad of Dorne. However, she manages to successfully keep her Kingdom independent from Aegon.
