At the courtyard of Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai, WeddingSutra Favorite – Design HQ transformed a courtyard into an elegant wedding venue and created a celebration that felt organic to its surroundings rather than imposed upon them. Led by Kinjal Adodra, the design team worked with the architecture of the space to create a romantic, immersive setting while retaining its distinctive character.
Kinjal shares, “The courtyard at Sahara Star is not traditionally offered as a wedding venue, so getting the space for a celebration of this scale was an ambitious decision by the couple. They really pulled out all the stops to make it happen, and once we had the space, our focus was on creating a design that respected its architecture rather than masking it,” shares Kinjal. The result was a celebration that marked the first wedding of its scale at the courtyard, turning an unconventional choice of venue into a memorable design statement.
The ceremony was envisioned as a serene, romantic sanctuary. At its centre stood a sculptural floating floral canopy, layered with ivory blooms into a rounded, cloud-like form, with white florals cascading softly from its edges. Rather than feeling imposing, the mandap appeared to bloom naturally from the courtyard. The aisle leading to it continued the organic aesthetic with lush floral meadows, delicate fountains and bonsai accents, introducing a subtle Zen-inspired rhythm to the setting. “We wanted the mandap to feel like a natural extension of the courtyard, almost as though it had grown there organically,” explains Kinjal.
As daylight faded, the setting took on a more intimate mood. Warm lighting filtered through the dense floral installation, illuminating the cascading blooms and lending the mandap a soft, luminous glow. The serene daytime setting gradually became more atmospheric, with the interplay of light and florals adding depth and quiet drama. “The lighting allowed the installation to have a completely different personality at night. What felt airy and ethereal during the day became warm, intimate and almost dreamlike after sunset,” says Kinjal. The result was a living installation that evolved with the changing light, transforming a rarely used wedding space into a distinctive and romantic setting for the celebration.
