Newton Village is set for a major overhaul, with a $25 million redevelopment bringing a rooftop restaurant with city views, a new TK Maxx and a 100-plus-place childcare centre to the north-eastern suburbs shopping centre.
After more than five years of planning and development, the expansion is expected to be completed in November, adding more than 3000sqm of retail space and taking Newton Village to approximately 13,800sqm of net lettable area.
Among the biggest additions will be a large-format rooftop restaurant overlooking the Adelaide city skyline, forming a new dining destination within the centre.
Revelop, which owns Newton Village, says the redevelopment will also create opportunities to further expand the centre’s broader food and dining offering, with additional operators still to be announced.
The retail expansion will be anchored by international off-price retailer TK Maxx, which will join Newton Village as its major large-format tenant.
“TK Maxx will join Newton Village as the major large-format international retail anchor, bringing its well-known off-price retail offer to the centre and further strengthening the retail mix available to the local community,” a Revelop spokesperson said.
While further specialty retailers and food operators have already been secured, Revelop is keeping those names under wraps for now, with more tenant announcements expected in the coming weeks.
The redevelopment will also extend beyond shopping and dining, with an enhanced health and fitness offering also planned alongside a new rooftop childcare centre.
The 100-plus-place facility will be operated by Future Minds and will mark the childcare provider’s first South Australian location.
More than 250 jobs have already been created during construction, with further employment opportunities expected as the new retailers and operators begin opening.
“After more than five years of planning and development, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the Newton Village vision becoming a reality,” Revelop director Charbel Hazzouri said.
“This redevelopment is about creating a stronger destination for the local community, bringing together everyday convenience with an expanded retail, dining and lifestyle offer, while creating new opportunities for our existing and incoming retailers.”
Fellow Revelop director Anthony El-Hazouri added that the redevelopment is designed to build on Newton Village’s existing role within the local community.
“Newton Village has always had strong foundations as a local shopping destination, and this redevelopment represents a significant investment in its future,” he said.
Newton Village currently attracts around 3.4 million visitors each year, with annual visitation expected to grow to more than four million following completion of the redevelopment.
The expanded Newton Village is due to open in November, with further retailer and dining announcements expected ahead of completion.
