BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Friday challenged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to deposit Rs 1 lakh crore into the accounts of poor people in the state, saying his family would transfer all the land and assets it owns if the chief minister did so.
KTR’s challenge came after Revanth Reddy accused the BRS leadership, its supporters and relatives of allegedly “looting” land worth around Rs 1 lakh crore during the previous government. The chief minister had also ordered a special enquiry team (SET) probe into alleged irregularities involving lands, including those linked to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse.
“CM Revanth, even if one per cent of the allegations you have made were true, I am making you an offer. We are ready to transfer all the assets we own. Will you deposit Rs 1 lakh crore into the accounts of the poor people of Telangana?” KTR said.
He said that if Revanth Reddy was ready to make the deposit, his family would transfer “every inch” of land owned in its name. If the chief minister could not do so, KTR demanded that he stop making the allegations and apologise.
KTR also rejected the allegations concerning KCR’s farmhouse, saying a previous campaign claiming that the former chief minister owned a 1,000-acre farmhouse had failed. He alleged that a fresh claim was now being made that the family owned land worth Rs 1 lakh crore.
KTR said Revanth Reddy had himself admitted in the Assembly that only 67 acres were part of KCR’s farm. He accused the chief minister of using “baseless allegations” to divert attention from the Congress government’s alleged governance failures.
The BRS leader also linked the Rs 1 lakh crore figure to the controversy over lands placed under the prohibited list under Section 22-A of the Registration Act. He alleged that the government was using the issue to divert attention from what he described as its failure to fulfil Congress’ election promises.
Revanth Reddy, during his speech in the Assembly on Wednesday, had alleged that 388 acres of government-assigned land was part of KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli in Siddipet district. He questioned whether around 700 acres of the farmhouse was under KCR’s control and directed the Revenue Department and the district collector to issue a notice to the former chief minister to ascertain the extent and ownership of the land.
The chief minister had also said that 440 acres of land were in the names of different members of KCR’s family, allegedly in violation of the Urban Land Ceiling Act. He ordered officials to complete the inquiry within 30 days.
KTR accused the Congress government of targeting the principal Opposition party instead of addressing issues faced by farmers, including power cuts, urea shortages and irrigation-related problems.
He also alleged that Congress had promised to provide two lakh jobs within its first year in office but had failed to fulfil the commitment even after 1,000 days in power.
KTR further alleged that similar claims of a Rs 1 lakh crore scam had been made against the previous BRS government over the Kaleshwaram project before the Assembly elections. He said no corruption involving the alleged amount had been established so far and accused the Congress of using the same figure in its latest allegations.
“Stop your wild propaganda and apologise immediately,” KTR said.
The BRS leader also accused Revanth Reddy of making false claims in the Assembly and said such allegations undermined the dignity of the legislature.
Meanwhile, BRS MLA T Harish Rao had also rejected the chief minister’s allegations, accusing him of trying to divert attention from public issues. He had said the BRS was ready for a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the affairs of both the previous BRS government and the present Congress government.
KTR said the BRS would expose what it alleged were corruption and irregularities under the Congress government if it returned to power and recover money allegedly lost through such activities.
