CHARSADDA: A police constable was arrested after the Excise Intelligence Squad and Excise Police Charsadda foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of hashish by recovering 12kg of the contraband from a car during a joint operation on Wednesday.
According to excise officials, the operation was conducted on a tip-off near Prang Maqbara (graveyard) on the Nowshera Road.
During a search of a car, officials recovered 12,000 grams of hashish concealed in two specially designed compartments inside the vehicle’s fuel tank.
The suspect, identified as Mehr Gul, a resident of Sadokhel area of Mohmand district, was arrested at the scene.
Officials said a case was registered against the suspect at the excise police station in Charsadda, while further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
According to the excise department, evidence recovered from the suspect allegedly indicated that he was associated with the Mohmand district police.
The action was carried out under the zero-tolerance policy against drugs announced by excise minister Syed Fakhar Jehan Wazir.
Meanwhile, two young motorcyclists died when their bike collided with a car on Umerzai-Harichand Road here on Wednesday.
According to sources, the deceased were identified as Yousaf and Farhan, residents of Gul Khitab Korona.
