Set amidst the scenic beauty of Bali, Dr Sumedha Tirthani and Karan Bhawanani’s wedding was a thoughtfully curated celebration that balanced contemporary Indian aesthetics with subtle Balinese influences. Seamlessly planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Ferris Wheel Diaries and designed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Nazara, each event carried its own distinct identity while coming together as one cohesive celebration.

Sumedha and Karan approached the planning process with complete trust in their creative teams, encouraging them to present concepts that felt fresh and meaningful. Reflecting on the collaboration, Vedika Singhal of Ferris Wheel Diaries shares, “Sumedha and Karan were open to every suggestion we brought to the table. They trusted our ideas from the very beginning, which gave us the freedom to create celebrations that felt unique to them while ensuring every event flowed seamlessly.”
For the couple, the focus was not only on creating a grand wedding, but on giving their guests the feeling of being on a holiday together. “Celebrating, exploring, eating, dancing and making memories as one family. With just 72 days to plan and Umana hosting its first ever large-scale Indian wedding, we had to build every aspect of the experience from the ground up. From understanding guest movement and hospitality to reimagining every venue space to fit the celebration, our focus was always on creating an effortless experience where every detail had a purpose,” she adds.
The planning approach therefore went beyond décor and aesthetics. Each event was conceived as a chapter of the larger three-day journey, with its own identity while remaining connected to the destination and the couple’s personality. Bali itself became an integral part of the experience, with local culture, materials, performers, flavours and experiences woven into the celebrations rather than recreating a conventional Indian wedding in an overseas setting.
Adding to this, Kriti Sharma of Nazara says, “Our focus was on giving each function its own character. From the bold palette of the cocktail to the playful Haldi and the understated elegance of the wedding, every space was designed to feel immersive while bringing together Indian and Balinese influences in a contemporary way.”

Cocktail
The celebrations began with an indoor cocktail evening inspired by the theme ‘After Dark & Roses’. A rich palette of deep red and navy blue set the tone, while layered prints and abundant florals added depth to the space. Thoughtfully designed lighting enhanced the mood, bringing warmth and drama to the décor without overwhelming it.
Haldi
The Haldi embraced a vibrant, playful aesthetic with bold colours and statement design elements. The highlight was a striking bamboo stage shaped like a giant flower, positioned against the dramatic cliffside backdrop so it appeared to float above the sea. Shades of purple, pink and yellow came together through florals and carefully considered detailing, creating a lively setting that captured the fun and spontaneity of the celebration.
Wedding
The wedding ceremony brought together Indian traditions and Balinese craftsmanship in a refined, contemporary setting. A soft palette of ivory and blush pink framed the acrylic mandap, which was dressed in abundant florals for an elegant yet understated look. Traditional Balinese elements such as Panjore and Gabogan were seamlessly integrated with modern Indian décor, while lotus flowers, symbolic of India and locally sourced in Bali, added a meaningful finishing touch.
