Prompt action by the Begur police led to the rescue of a Nepalese couple who were allegedly locked inside a room of a lodge following a quarrel with a man in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 1.16 p.m. on September 8 at a lodge in the Mico Layout police station limits. The man trapped inside the room managed to contact the Namma-112 emergency helpline and sought police assistance.
The information was immediately relayed to ASI Sathish Kumar and APC Manjunath B.K., who were on duty with Hoysala-214 of the Begur police station. The police team reached the spot within about 12 minutes, contacted the lodge owner, obtained a duplicate key, and rescued the couple safely.
Police subsequently took Birendra Bowra, who had allegedly locked the couple inside the room from outside, to the Mico Layout police station for further action.
According to the police, the couple, who are from Nepal, had gone to Bowra’s house in search of work. A quarrel reportedly broke out between the trio over a domestic issue. During the argument, Bowra, who works as housekeeping staff at a private company, allegedly locked the couple inside a room in a fit of anger and left the house.
The couple, who tried to get out of the room, eventually managed to contact the police control room through Namma-112.
However, after being rescued, the couple told the police that they did not want to pursue the matter further. Following their request, Bowra was released with a stern warning, a Mico Layout police officer said.
