Michael Schumacher is unlikely ever to make another public appearance as his family remain determined to protect the Formula One legend’s privacy, according to former driver Marc Surer.
Schumacher has not been seen publicly since suffering life-changing injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013.
The seven-time world champion sustained a severe head injury after falling and striking a rock while skiing in Meribel.
He was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent surgery before eventually continuing his rehabilitation privately with his family.
Very little verified information has emerged about Schumacher’s condition since then, with wife Corinna and their children fiercely guarding his personal life.
Surer, who made 82 Formula One starts during his career, does not believe that position will change.
“Will we see Michael again in public? No, I don’t think so,” he told OLBG.

“His family would not want people to see him like that.
“They want to keep him in mind as he was: a happy, successful man. And that’s it.”
Schumacher’s name has remained the subject of intense speculation, including unconfirmed claims concerning significant family occasions.
Reports previously suggested he had attended a wedding in Mallorca and had been moved in a wheelchair, although no official confirmation was provided.

Surer acknowledged those claims but stressed that he had no knowledge of whether they were accurate.
“There was a situation, obviously, in Mallorca,” he said.
“The Spanish newspaper said he was at a wedding and they pushed him in a wheelchair. I don’t know if this story is true.
“That’s the only time I heard. But what for? It’s better we keep the picture of how Michael was: winning, happy.”
Asked whether seeing Schumacher again would make any meaningful difference, Surer added: “I don’t know what difference it makes.”
Schumacher remains one of the greatest drivers in Formula One history following a career that transformed both Benetton and Ferrari.
He won his first two world championships with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 before spearheading Ferrari’s return to dominance.
The German claimed five consecutive titles between 2000 and 2004, establishing records that appeared almost untouchable before Lewis Hamilton matched his total of seven championships.

Schumacher briefly retired in 2006 but returned with Mercedes four years later, remaining on the grid until the end of the 2012 season.
His family addressed his recovery in the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, with Corinna explaining that they continued to live together and do everything possible to help him.
She also made clear why his privacy would continue to be protected, recalling how Schumacher had always shielded his family from unwanted attention.
Surer is now interested to hear what Corinna may disclose in a future documentary appearance, although he expects the family’s established boundaries to remain.
“But in the documentary, I am wondering what she will say,” he added.
