Police have pleaded with drivers to remain safe behind the wheel after a fourth person was killed on Tasmanian roads in the space of just 72 hours.
In the latest tragedy to rock the island state a woman was killed and two others are fighting for life following a devastating head-on collision at Old Beach, north of Hobart, about 1.35pm on Monday.

The front-seat passenger of a blue Nissan Qashqai died at the scene on East Derwent Hwy, near Riviera Dr, while the driver of that car was taken by ambulance to Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition.
The man behind the wheel of the silver Great Wall involved was taken to the same hospital and is also in a critical condition.
The tragedy comes just 72 hours after three people were killed and two others were injured west of Launceston on Friday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at the Bass Highway, east of the Gannons Hill Rd intersection, about 2pm, but two women and a man could not be saved.
“Tragically, since Friday we’ve seen four people die, and four sustain critical injuries in crashes on our roads,” Tasmania Police Acting Inspector Amanda Hall said.
“While the crash investigations into this crash — and the one at Elizabeth Town on Friday — are ongoing, broadly police urge all motorists to be safe every time they travel on our roads.
“Every death on our roads is one too many, and today further families have received the devastating news that their loved one has died or been critically injured in a crash.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected.”
The police investigation into Monday’s crash is underway and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
