KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday reviewed the ongoing operations of the Peoples Bus Service (PBS) across the province and decided to expand the key transport facility to various cities.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department.
According to a statement issued here, the meeting discussed the expansion of the PBS, progress on double-decker buses, the EV taxi service, Pink Scooties and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, TransKarachi Chief Executive Zubair Channa, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Aamir Behzad Memon and others.
The meeting was informed that the PBS will soon be launched on the Qambar-Shahdadkot to Larkana route. The buses have reached Larkana, while matters related to the arrival and operation of double-decker buses are being finalised.
The meeting also discussed in detail the operational model of the EV taxi service and the steps being taken to launch the service.
Minister Memon directed that all arrangements for the launch of bus services on new routes should be completed on time.
He said that the purpose of expanding the scope of the PBS is to provide better transport facilities to the people.
He said that the Pink Scooties program is a revolutionary step towards women’s empowerment and facilitating their access to essential activities.
He further directed that the pace of work on BRT projects should be accelerated and that all relevant institutions should work in close coordination to avoid unnecessary delays.
The minister said the Sindh government is taking practical steps to develop a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly public transport system across the province.
He added that the expansion of the PBS to different cities, the promotion of electric transport, and major BRT projects are part of the government’s comprehensive transport policy.
