President Donald Trump said Friday he was among countless Americans following Lindsay Clancy’s murder case, which has just ended in a mistrial.
“It’s hard not to follow,” Trump said in a clip the White House shared on social media. “It’s a shame. It’s a horrible tragedy. It’s a horrible tragedy.”
Clancy, 36, was tried on three counts of first-degree murder in the 2023 deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy. While she admitted to strangling her children at home in Duxbury on Jan. 24, 2023, Clancy raised a so-called insanity defense as she argued she was in the throes of postpartum psychosis and heard a voice in her head urging her to kill the children and herself.
After more than a week of deliberations, the jury of nine women and three men remained deadlocked and Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial Friday afternoon. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has not yet said whether it will retry Clancy’s case.
“I assume there’s going to be another trial,” Trump said Friday. “It’s a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse. But you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There will be a price. It’s going to be a mental institution, or jail, or something. But I guess they’ve got to go through another trial. It’s too bad.”
